Police Hiring Process

  • Applications are received (including supplemental application, official copies of high school diploma/transcripts, college transcripts; a copy of birth certificate, driver’s license and social security card).  In addition, if served in the military an official copy of military discharge paperwork.
  • Applicants are preliminarily screened to determine who will be invited to take written examination based upon pre-set criteria
  • Written examination and physical ability assessment are administered
  • Candidates are ranked for further consideration
  • Selected candidates are invited for an oral interview
  • Candidates are ranked for further consideration
  • Successful candidates are scheduled for a polygraph examination
  • Successful candidates are subject to a comprehensive and detailed background investigation (including psychological examination)
  • Successful candidates are offered conditional employment pending successfully passing a drug screen and physical examination (including vision and color blind tests)
  • Final offer of employment is made and start date established

 

Hiring process from date of advertising to hire date usually takes up to 6 months.
