Project Phasing and Scheduling
The City has developed a very aggressive schedule to complete this project as quickly as possible to minimize the impact to businesses and residents. The contractor is required to complete all the work on Braddock and Cameron no later than October 24, 2009. Work on Piccadilly Street will not begin until after the work on Braddock and Cameron is completed. The majority of the work on Piccadilly Street will be completed prior to the Apple Blossom Festival in 2010.
While some initial construction activities occurred before the Apple Blossom Festival, the primary construction on the project started on May 4. Work started on both Braddock and Cameron at the south end of the project (near Gerrard) and is progressing north. Work will occur on the project Monday through Saturday and may begin as early as 6:00 am and continue until as late as 10:00 pm.
In general, work will be completed in phases in a 3 to 4 block “work area” on each street. These phases will typically consist of the following:
- Replacement of sanitary sewer laterals and manholes
- Replacement of water main and water services
- Installation of new storm infrastructure
- Installation of conduit for new streetlights
- Sidewalk and curb replacement
To further minimize the impacts on retail businesses in Old Town, every effort will be made to complete the work on Braddock Street between Cork Street and Fairfax Lane during the period June 1 – August 31.
Following the completion of the sidewalk and curb replacements, both Braddock and Cameron will be repaved and restriped before both streets are converted to two-way traffic. The City’s goal is to convert both streets to two-way traffic by Thanksgiving.
