Winchester is Going Green
In May 2008, the City of Winchester accepted the Virginia Municipal League’s “Go Green Challenge” and began efforts to reduce the City’s carbon footprint and overall environmental impact in order to create a more sustainable and responsible community.
To begin, the City put together a “Green Team” comprised of knowledgeable staff from various City departments to recommend changes to the way the City operates and provides services. All changes must decrease the City’s impact on the environment while maintaining a high level of customer service and quality of life for residents. The City of Winchester understands that “Going Green” is a continual process. Each year, we will commit ourselves and our work to being more environmentally responsible and pledge to help make the process easy for the public to embrace as well. Through education, smart decisions and a strong commitment, the City will “do what it takes to do it right”.
In this Going Green website, you will find a collection of resources and information from the world’s leading environmental experts to help you start your own green lifestyle. Together, we can ensure a safe and beautiful community for generations to come.
