Take Control of Your Driving Future

Mon, 02/17/2014 - 05:02

The Winchester Police Department wants mature drivers to take control of their driving future.  Older drivers, those who are 70-years-old and older, make up 10 percent of all licensed drivers in the U.S.  Age alone is not enough to indicate a safe driver, in fact, statistically elderly are the safest group of drivers, however, even the most experienced and competent drivers need to refresh their driving skills as they age.  It is normal for our driving abilities to change as we age.  By reducing risk factors and incorporating safe driving practices, many of us can continue driving safely well into our senior years.
On Friday, March 7th the Winchester Police Department will hold a presentation for mature drivers.  Topics will include:
How Aging Affects Driving
Safe Senior Driving
Driving Defensively
Finding the Right Car for You
Medications and Driving
Preventative Steps You Can Take to Continue Driving Safely
The presentation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Active Living and Recreation Center in the War Memorial Building at Jim Barnett Park.
Limited seating is available.  Please register by March 3rd by e-mailing or calling Lauren Cummings at lauren.cummings@winchesterva.gov or (540) 545-7548.
