The City’s Central Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project (started in March 2020 and delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic) will resume work on North Washington Street on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Road closures, access restrictions, and detours will be implemented.
The City’s contractor will replace all underground utility infrastructure in one-block sections beginning with the section between West Boscawen and Amherst Streets. A temporary asphalt will be applied before moving to the next section: Amherst to Piccadilly Street. Once replacements have been completed in both blocks, the road will be repaved and restriped. These sections will be closed to through traffic while work is occurring which is expected to take six to seven weeks per section (weather permitting). Sidewalks will remain open.
Following the completion of these two sections of Washington Street, the contractor will move to W. Piccadilly Street between N. Washington and Morgan and Morgan Street (dates to be announced). A letter has been delivered to all affected residents on North Washington Street and the same will be done for Piccadilly and Morgan when those projects are scheduled.
Please follow all detour, street closure, and no parking signs, and drive safely in this work zone.
The estimated cost for the work that will be completed on N. Washington, Morgan, and W. Piccadilly Streets is approximately $3 million.
