Come Out of Hibernation Day

Handley Regional Library System is excited to announce a unique day of programming, activities, events for the public on February 2nd called “Come Out of Hibernation Day.”  Come out of Hibernation Day originally started with the Groundhog Day Celebration at Bowman Library, but quickly expanded into an all-day event where patrons can explore everything the system has to offer.  This special day is packed full of programs and activities for kids, teens, adults, and families – with something to experience at all 3 libraries (Bowman Library, Handley Library, and Clarke County Library).  The day officially kicks off at 11AM featuring the Groundhog Day Celebration and the Indoor Plant Clinic at Bowman Library and Unheard Voices of Civil War Winchester and Lego Club at Handley Library.  In addition, Patrons can enter a drawing at every location and have an opportunity to win a book bag stuffed with promotional items, book bucks, and more.  All programs are free and open to the public. 

“Come out of Hibernation Day is a great way for the public to engage with everything that Handley Regional Library System has to offer, whether you’ve been here before or want to visit for the first time” says John Huddy, Director of Handley Regional Library System.  “We have something available for every age group at all 3 of our libraries.  In addition to books, you can attend a program, checkout a movie from nearly any genre, take home a video game, or even borrow one of our Wi-Fi mobile hotspots for free internet at home. If you don’t have a library card, this is the day to get one.”

  • Chess at Bowman Library – 10AM-12PM
  • Groundhog Day Celebration at Bowman Library – 11AM-2PM
  • Indoor Plant Clinic for Adults at Bowman Library – 11AM-2PM
  • Lego Club for Kids at Handley Library – 11AM-12PM
  • Unheard Voice of the Civil War  at Handley Library  - 11AM-12PM
  • Family Film: Hercules at Handley Library - 12PM-2PM
  • Paws for Reading at Bowman Library  - 1PM-2:15PM
  • VCLA Author Series at Handley Library  - 2PM-4PM

The library system reports that their focus is on creating connections within the community.  “Our service area covers Winchester, Frederick and Clarke Counties.  Our goal is to be a resource to the residents through access to information and entertainment.  We want patrons to know that they can visit any library within our system and experience community and connections.  You can relax in our common areas as you read, reserve a meeting or study room, use our free Wi-Fi and low cost printing services, get one on one help from any of our staff members – and more.  Plus, you can access materials from virtually anywhere with our online digital library.  There’s a lot of you can experience here at Handley Regional Library System and we encourage everyone to come see for yourself on February 2nd.”
