The Friends of Handley Regional Library System is thrilled to announce an educational and interesting dramatic, live portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln on Saturday, November 13, at 2:00 PM at the Handley Robinson Auditorium in the Handley Library branch. The program is entitled: “The Very Creature of Excitement: The Woman Abraham Fell in Love With – and Never Fell Out.”

Take a closer look at a woman who has often been maligned and misunderstood - the high-spirited, clever, and charming Mary Todd Lincoln. Mrs. Lincoln is portrayed by Laurie Gaulke. Laurie offers an intimate portrayal of a woman whose eccentricities, intelligence, and political skills propelled her out of the traditional womanly sphere and into unrelenting criticism of Victorian America.

Laurie is an actress/storyteller specializing in creating historical portrayals of REAL women with REAL stories to tell. Using primary sources (diaries, letters, journals) whenever possible, she strives to present each character in a historically, culturally, and socially accurate manner.

HRLS is strongly recommending the use of masks for ALL patrons during this program to ensure the highest safety for library patrons and staff.
