First organized in 1972 Family Day has been an annual event in the north end community of Winchester and was created to unite black families & their neighbors. The annual event continues to bring the now multi-cultural north end community together for a weekend of education, fun and entertainment.
Three Family Day Events
- To kick off the weekend of events, there is a FREE POOL PARTY at Jim Barnett Park in Winchester (1001 E. Cork Street) on Friday, July 29, 2022.
- Saturday, we have an evening of praise & worship at the Frederick Douglass Park (behind Douglass School at 598 N. Kent Street) on August 6, 2022.
- The "main" Family Day event is always the first Sunday in August and draws a crowd of 600-800 residents. Throughout the day spectators, participants, young and old enjoy a variety of fun. There's music, face painting, old fashioned backyard games, athletic games, vendors, a Resource Fair and much more. This all-day event is FREE including a children’s lunch.
Frederick Douglass Park Club is a non-profit community group that relies on generous donations from the community throughout the year to host these events.
