Arrest Made in Stabbing

A Washington, D.C. man is charged with malicious wounding following a stabbing early Saturday morning. 
Just before 1 a.m. Winchester Police Officers responded to a restaurant in the 100 block of North Loudoun Street for a domestic fight.  While officers were handling that incident, they were advised that a stabbing had occurred in a separate incident at the restaurant.  The victim, a 24-year-old male from Winchester, was stabbed a number of times in the chest, neck, back, elbow, and wrist.  He was taken to Winchester Medical Center and is listed in critical condition. 

Friendship Fire Station out of service for maintenance

Beginning today through Wednesday, February 5th, Friendship Fire Station located at 627 N. Pleasant Valley Road will be out of service for maintenance. However, the station’s Saturday BINGO is on schedule.

National Ave. fire illustrates importance of following safety tips

At approximately 9:30 am this morning, the Winchester Fire & Rescue Department was dispatched to 364 National Avenue for a reported structure fire.  The occupant was asleep and home alone at the time of the fire, but thanks to the smoke alarm, the occupant was able to escape unharmed before calling 9-1-1.

The Winchester Police Department wants your money to stay with you in 2014.  The police department has been receiving a number of reports of fraud and wants to educate the public on how to prevent from becoming a victim. 
On January 30th officers received a report of credit card fraud.  The victim had met someone online who told her that if she loaded $400 on a prepaid card she would make more than that amount.  The victim added the money to a prepaid card, but now the money is missing and she didn’t receive anything in return.

Man Sought for Indecent Exposure at Local Business

The search is on for a man who indecently exposed himself to a woman at a local business.   On January 29, 2014 just after 3 p.m. Winchester Police Officers were called to the first block of West Fairfax Lane for an incident exposure.  A victim said a male exposed himself to her while inside a laundromat.
The suspect is described as an Hispanic or white male with an accent, between 40 and 50 years old, with some facial hair growth, wearing a green zip-up jacket, black pants, and a black beanie style hat.  His clothes were described as looking old. 

Designate a Sober Driver before Kickoff on Super Bowl Sunday

The Super Bowl is one of America’s most highly anticipated sports events, when friends and family gather to celebrate.  The Winchester Police Department reminds residents to designate a sober driver on Super Bowl Sunday before kick-off so everyone will arrive home safe after the game.  The WPD will have saturated patrols in place on Super Bowl Sunday and has a no tolerance policy when it comes to drinking and driving.  Officers will be looking for drivers who are driving drunk or are impaired by other drugs and will be charging them.

Officers Investigate Burglary at Northside Laundry

The Winchester Police Department is investigating a burglary and forced entry at Northside Laundry that happened over the weekend.  Officers were called to the 800 block of North Loudoun Street just after 8:30 Sunday morning.  Officers found that a storage room door had been broken into and electronic equipment and money was taken.  The incident happened between Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

January 21st schedule changes due to weather

Due to the inclement weather, the City of Winchester has made the following changes to today’s schedule:
City offices closed (excluding essential services)
Tuesday’s recycling collection rescheduled for Wednesday, January 22nd
Final day for yard waste and Christmas tree collection on Wednesday, January 22nd is on schedule

Sidewalk improvements for N. Loudoun to begin next week

Beginning the week of January 27th (weather permitting), the City will begin another sidewalk improvement project on North Loudoun Street between Wyck Street and the northern city limits as per the City of Winchester Sidewalk Master Plan and as approved by Council in the FY14 budget.
