Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions applied by Phase III of Virginia’s reopening plan, and for the safety of our community, we have decided to cancel the 2020 Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony held annually in Old Town Winchester. In its place, a light show in Jim Barnett Park, called Lights in the Park, will be offered for our community to experience from the safety of their vehicle and at their leisure.
“We are saddened by the fact that the parade, a popular tradition in our community, had to be canceled, but our holiday cheer is alive and well,” stated City Manager Dan Hoffman. “We are excited to offer a new and safe holiday activity which we hope residents and visitors will find enjoyable during these uncertain and extraordinary times.”
The lights and holiday scenes will be installed around the road that meanders through Jim Barnett Park from the amphitheater (Oak Drive), past the dog park and ending near the Rec Center (War Memorial Drive). The Lights in the Park show will be available to drive through from 5:00-8:30 pm, seven days a week, November 30-December 20, 2020. The show is free to enter and will feature beautiful light designs, characters, and holiday decorations the entire family will love. Santa is also expected to make an appearance on weekends! NOTE: No vehicles will be permitted to enter after 8:30 pm.
