It's game time!  Winchester Parks and Recreation (WPRD) offers many athletic programs and leagues that will keep you moving and having fun.

All registrations are now being processed through CommunityPass! Individuals and Families are required to create an account in order to register for programs, process memberships, and request facilities. What is a RDF? In recognition that City of Winchester residents support our department through their city taxes, the City offers residents a discounted fee (RDF). Non-residents pay the regular fee for programs and leagues.


Gym Drop In Play Schedule

During Drop In Play, the gym is available at the below times to anyone wanting to drop by the Recreation Center to play the designated sport. Equipment is available if needed. This is not a league or program. Organized practices of any kind are not permitted during Drop In Play times. Anyone entering the gym must pay the daily fee or have a punch pass/membership. Schedule is subject to change based on gym availability.

*NEW* Attention Drop In Players! Do you use our gym during drop in play on a regular basis? Instead of paying the Daily Fee each visit, sign up for our *NEW* seasonal Gym Drop In Play Pass! Outdoor Pickleball

During the warmer months, 4 lined outdoor courts are available for use free of charge. A key for equipment can be checked out at the Rec Center.

Racquetball

The Rec Center has one indoor court can be used for racquetball or wallyball. Court reservations can be made seven calendar days in advance for no more that two hours at a time. Reservations are recommended. Open daily during Rec Center hours. Spectators are not permitted.

Fitness Room

The Rec Center Fitness Room provides weights, dumbbells, barbells, machines, treadmills, and ellipticals. Ages 14-16 must be accompanied by an adult 18+. Spectators are not permitted. Attire must follow WPRD fitness policy and all policies are strictly enforced. Open daily during Rec Center hours to participants ages 14+.

Disc Golf

WPRD's 18-hole disc golf course is located within Jim Barnett Park and is available to play for FREE! Discs are available at the Rec Center, if needed. The course meanders through 170 acres of park land and boasts a balance of long, challenging holes and short, strategic holes. Tee boxes are clearly marked with full-color hole maps and permanent colored squares in the concrete. Scorecards are available for download online at winchesterva.gov/parks/disc-golf.


Athletics Clinics - Youth

BRU Indoor Soccer

Winchester Parks and Recreation is partnering with Blue Ridge United to offer this 5 week fundamentals program. During the program, players will be introduced to basic techniques and tactics of the game during technical and small sided exercises.

Fencing (Youth & Adults Welcome!)

Winchester Parks and Recreation is now offering fencing; one of the original sports held in the Olympic Games. The clinic is led by Tom Jobson, member of the United States Fencing Association. This course is for people of all skill levels. Come out and join WPRD for a new and exciting experience. Equipment is available for a one-time rental fee of $15 payable to the instructor.

Basketball

Winchester Parks and Recreation is again offering our popular youth basketball clinics! Led by certified I'm Possible Trainer and coach Chris Troxell. Each player will be introduced to proven methods used by players of all ages from all over the world, including NBA players. There will be a balance of individual skill enhancement as well as game development.

Athletics Clinics - Adult

Pickleball Basics for Beginners

This clinic is for beginner level players with no experience required. Students will learn scoring, general rules, strategies, and the core fundamentals including dinks, serves & returns, 3rd shot drops, volleys and more. The Class will be taught by PPR Certified Pro Instructor, Michele Spahr.

Pickleball Beyond the Basics

This clinic is designed for the intermediate level player. Players will go beyond the basics focusing on game strategy and development of skills including dinks, serves & returns, 3rd shot drops, lobs, volleys and more. The Class will be taught by PPR Certified Pro Instructor, Michele Spahr.

Pickle for the People Tournament

WPRD and CCAP are teaming up to host a Round Robin Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, February 11 at 8 a.m. The goal of this event is to collect nonperishable food donations for the citizens of Winchester who need assistance. Fee: $75 per team + 5 nonperishable food items for donation. This is a Mixed Doubles event, but only 1 player needs to register for the team. Register now; space is limited. Come out and Pickle for the People!

Youth sports officials needed

WPRD is seeking youth sports officials and volunteer coaches for flag football, basketball, cheerleading, indoor soccer and volleyball leagues. Games are played weeknights and weekends. Flexible schedule is a must. Sports official applicants must be at least 16 years old, have reliable transportation, possess the ability to interact well with adults and youth, and possess the ability to understand and apply sport-specific rules. Officiating experience preferred but not required. Pay: $20 per game. Click here for more information.
