Youth sports officials needed

WPRD is seeking youth sports officials and volunteer coaches for flag football, basketball, cheerleading, indoor soccer and volleyball leagues. Games are played weeknights and weekends. Flexible schedule is a must. Sports official applicants must be at least 16 years old, have reliable transportation, possess the ability to interact well with adults and youth, and possess the ability to understand and apply sport-specific rules. Officiating experience preferred but not required. Pay: $20 per game. Click here for more information.


It's game time!  Winchester Parks and Recreation (WPRD) offers many athletic programs and leagues that will keep you moving and having fun.

Beginning Monday 5/23, all registrations, except for facility rentals, will be processed through CommunityPass! What is a RDF? In recognition that City of Winchester residents support our department through their city taxes, the City offers residents a discounted fee (RDF). Non-residents pay the regular fee for programs and leagues.


Youth Athletics Camps

Girls' Sports Camp (Ages 5-13)
Various age-appropriate sports activities such as basketball, tennis, volleyball, putt-putt golf, swimming, bowling, and different gymnasium activities. Children will be placed into appropriate age groups.

Basketball Camp (Ages 5-13)
Lace up your high tops and get ready for an exciting week of basketball. This camp gives each player a chance to learn the basics and improve their skills. Camp is instructed by Winchester Rising Star President/Coach Tyrus Thomas.

Football Camp (Ages 7-15)
Have you ever wanted to learn how to throw a football like a pro? Join us for our football camp and learn all the basic fundamentals of this intense sport. Bring cleats. Camp is instructed by James Wood HS Football Coach Jordan Hartman.

Boys' Sports Camp (Ages 5-13)

Volleyball Camp (Ages 8-18)
Are you ready to bump, set, and spike? If so, then come out to our volleyball camp. Participants will learn fundamentals of volleyball and other key skills to improve their game. Camp is instructed by Handley HS volleyball coaching staff.

Soccer Camp (Ages 5-15)
Come out to the soccer field and learn the fundamentals of soccer. Participants will learn to dribble, kick, pass, and shoot while having fun playing games. Bring cleats. Camp is instructed by Blue Ridge United Director/Coach Olivia Elliot.

Junior Golf Camp (Ages 8-16)
Learn how to improve your golf swing from a pro. Each participant will learn techniques and proper skills from a PGA Pro while getting a chance to improve their skills at a professional golf course. Camp is instructed by Rock Harbor Golf Course staff.

Tennis Camp (Ages 5-13)
For players who are beginners to intermediate. The camp will teach participants the basic fundamentals in stroke production (forehand, backhand, volley, serve, and smash), court movement, and basic footwork skills. All participants will have a great time playing and learning this number one racket sport. Participants should bring a racket and sneakers. Camp is instructed by Alex Bowers.

U12 Rugby

Like to play tag? Like to throw a ball? Want to try something new? Awesome! Come learn foundational rugby skills and team concepts, as well as compete in (no contact) TOUCH rugby games against teams in the Northern VA area. This league is open to players of all skill levels. Soccer cleats are required. This league is offered in partnership with Winchester Cannons Rugby.

Soccer Shots

Winchester Parks and Recreation teams up with Soccer Shots to provide soccer classes year-round. For more information, visit soccershots.org/northwesternva. Classes are taught by Soccer Shots staff. Search for classes by choosing Winchester Parks and Recreation as the location.

Open Gym Schedule

The gym will be available at the below times to anyone who would like to drop by the Recreation Center to play some hoops. This is not a league or program. Basketballs are available if needed. Organized practices of any kind are not permitted. Anyone entering the gym must pay the daily fee or have a punch pass/membership.

Tennis Time - Join the Shenandoah Valley Tennis Association (SVTA) and local Parks & Rec Departments for Tennis Time! It's FREE and open to ALL ages. Equipment provided if needed, no experience required.

Family Day Fishing Rodeo - Prizes will be awarded in eight divisions for the largest fish. VA State Fishing regulations apply. A special stocking is scheduled prior to the rodeo. Register in advance or day-of. This event is sponsored by Wilkins Trust Fund.
