It's game time!  Winchester Parks and Recreation (WPRD) offers many athletic programs and leagues that will keep you moving and having fun.

What is a RDF? In recognition that City of Winchester residents support our department through their city taxes, the City offers residents a discounted fee (RDF). Non-residents pay the regular fee for programs and leagues.


Athletics Clinics - Extended Registration Deadlines!

Fencing Clinic - Youth and Adult (Ages 8+)
For the first time ever, WPRD is now offering fencing; one of the original sports in the Olympic Games! The clinic is led by Tom Jobson, member of the United States Fencing Association. This clinic is for people of all skill levels. Come out and join us for a new and exciting experience. Equipment is available for a one-time rental fee of $15 payable to the instructor.

Volleyball Skills Clinic (Ages 9-11, 12-15)
WPRD's volleyball clinic meets once a week to help players work on their volleyball skills. Go Volley - Volleyball Club coaches will provide individual attention to help work on any difficulties players are having.

Basketball Clinic (Ages 6-8, 9-11, 12-15)
Elementary and Middle School players will be introduced to proven methods used by players of all ages from all over the world, including NBA players. These clinics are led by certified "I'm Possible" trainer and coach Chris Troxell. There will be a balance of individual skill enhancement as well as game development.

Speed and Agility Clinic (Ages 11-14)
Pro Motion/Pro Physical Therapy staff is coming to WPRD to lead a clinic designed to improve overall athletic ability and help create better body awareness. Participants will learn how to run, jump, and change direction with proper technique.

Soccer Shots

Winchester Parks and Recreation teams up with Soccer Shots to provide soccer classes year-round. This fall, classes taught by Soccer Shots staff will take place on Wednesdays, 9/7 through 11/9, from 4:50 - 5:30 p.m. and 5:35 - 6:15 p.m. No class on 9/14 or 10/19. Location: Jim Barnett Park, Preston Field. For more information, visit soccershots.org/northwesternva. Sign up for classes by choosing Winchester Parks and Recreation as the location. Cost is $106 for the 8 week session.


Athletics Leagues

Junior and Senior Basketball Leagues - FREE for City Residents (22601 zip code)

These exciting basketball leagues give each player a chance learn new skills and build upon already learned skills while enjoying being part of a team. A coach will notify registered participants with specific practice information once teams have been formed. Practices are twice a week for 1 hour and games are once a week. During registration, you can select your practice day preference, either M/W, or TU/TH. Practices days and times will be assigned when teams are formed, but practices will start no earlier than 5:30 p.m. Practice day preferences will be strongly considered, but are not guaranteed.

Kickball - Team Registration

This co-ed league is played like the elementary school game you remember - the one with the big red playground ball! It's an easy game that is open to all skill levels. Even YOU can be a kickball superstar!

Ultimate Frisbee - Individual Registration

Combining the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football, a game of Ultimate is played by two seven player squads with a high-tech plastic disc on a field similar to football. The object of the game is to score by catching a pass in the opponent's end zone. Teams of 7 participants minimum, 14 participants maximum.

Gym Drop In Play Schedule

During Drop In Play, the gym is available at the below times to anyone wanting to drop by the Recreation Center to play the designated sport. Equipment is available if needed. This is not a league or program. Organized practices of any kind are not permitted during Drop In Play times. Anyone entering the gym must pay the daily fee or have a punch pass/membership. Schedule is subject to change based on gym availability.

Outdoor Pickleball

During the warmer months, 4 lined outdoor courts are available for use free of charge. A key for equipment can be checked out at the Rec Center.

Racquetball

The Rec Center has one indoor court can be used for racquetball or wallyball. Court reservations can be made seven calendar days in advance for no more that two hours at a time. Reservations are recommended. Open daily during Rec Center hours. Spectators are not permitted.

Fitness Room

The Rec Center Fitness Room provides weights, dumbbells, barbells, machines, treadmills, and ellipticals. Ages 14-16 must be accompanied by an adult 18+. Spectators are not permitted. Attire must follow WPRD fitness policy and all policies are strictly enforced. Open daily during Rec Center hours.

Disc Golf

WPRD's 18-hole disc golf course is located within Jim Barnett Park and is available to play for FREE! Discs are available at the Rec Center, if needed. The course meanders through 170 acres of park land and boasts a balance of long, challenging holes and short, strategic holes. Tee boxes are clearly marked with full-color hole maps and permanent colored squares in the concrete. Scorecards are available for download online at winchesterva.gov/parks/disc-golf.

Thankful for Volleyball Hat Tournament

Join us for our autumn volleyball tourney! All names will be placed in a hat and teams will be randomly drawn on site. Game format will depend on the number of participants. Teams will be required to keep score when not playing.

Youth sports officials needed

WPRD is seeking youth sports officials and volunteer coaches for flag football, basketball, cheerleading, indoor soccer and volleyball leagues. Games are played weeknights and weekends. Flexible schedule is a must. Sports official applicants must be at least 16 years old, have reliable transportation, possess the ability to interact well with adults and youth, and possess the ability to understand and apply sport-specific rules. Officiating experience preferred but not required. Pay: $20 per game. Click here for more information.
