RDF: Resident Discount Fee

What is a RDF? In recognition that City of Winchester residents support our department through their city taxes, the City offers residents a discounted fee (RDF). Non-residents will pay the regular fee for lessons, classes, and rentals.


Creative Classes

Glass Pumpkin or Haunted House: Participants will have the choice between creating a pumpkin or a haunted house on a 6x6 base using a variety of colorful glass. Participants will also choose the style and shape in which they want their piece fired. Pieces will be ready in one week from date of class.

Pumpkin Votive Holder: Participants will decorate a pumpkin shaped lantern using a large selection of paints. Lanterns will be ready for pick up in one week from date of class.

Halloween Cookie Kit: Have fun at home while decorating Halloween cookies! Kits include 1 dozen cookies, icing, instruction card with link to a demo video! Note: Recipes are nut-free; however, items are not prepared in a nut-free kitchen.

Training & Certification Courses

Wilderness First Aid: Perfect for scouts, camp counselors, and outdoor enthusiasts, Winchester Parks and Rec is proud to offer Wilderness First Aid. This course will provide individuals with a foundation of first aid principles and skills to be able to respond to emergencies and give care in areas that do not have immediate emergency medical services. Attendance is required for the entire session. A CPR certification is required prior to the start of this class.

CPR/AED/First Aid Course - HYBRID: The purpose of this course is to teach participants to recognize and respond to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies.  With successful completion, participants will be certified in CPR/AED/First Aid for 2 years. Attendance is required for the in-person portion of the class to obtain the certification.

Babysitting: Looking to work with or care for children? Babysitting class is the class for you. This course will prepare participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to water and care for children and infants. This course will train you in leadership, safety and first aid, understanding children, and what to do in the event of an emergency. You will leave this class with a certification from the American Red Cross in Babysitting and Pediatric CPR/First Aid. Participants must complete the written exams and score higher than 80% in order to pass. Attendance is mandatory for the entire session.

Nature Walks

Come enjoy the natural beauty of this special Wetlands Preserve. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Jubal Early Dr./Handley Ave./Meadow Branch Ave. Parking is available on Meadow Branch Ave. and Handley Ave. Wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water, binoculars and a camera. Walk is approximately 1 mile.

Walking Club

Come join the WPRD Gaiters and have fun while walking and talking! Meet in the lobby of the Rec Center to begin the walks. Comfortable shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and water are recommended. In case of inclement weather, the walk may be cancelled for the day.

Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:45 - 9:45 a.m.

NOTE: The Walking Club will be concluding at the end of September 2023.

Yoga:  Please bring a yoga mat and yoga blocks if you wish to use them. Equipment and mats will not be provided.

Zumba:  Enjoy a total body workout using the most popular music. Zumba burns calories, tones muscles, improves balance, and incorporates a full range of motion.

PB&J Club (Ages 1-5)

Note: This is a Parent Supervised program.

Play, Bounce and Jump to refine motor skills and have fun with a gym full of toddler-appropriate play equipment. Jump on the small trampoline, crawl through Gus the Caterpillar, climb over padded hills, or play ball. Kids and parents play freely without worrying about clean up or the weather. All equipment is safely and properly sanitized before each session. Currently, private group rentals are not available.

Day: 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, except as noted below.
9/13, 9/27, 10/11, 10/25, 11/8, (no 11/22), 12/13, (no 12/27), 1/10, 1/24, 2/14, 2/28, 3/13, (no 3/27).
