On April 22, 2019 at approximately 4:20 p.m., the Winchester Fire & Rescue Department (WFRD) was dispatched to a structure fire at 325 East Piccadilly Street. The first units arrived on scene at approximately 4:22 p.m. and observed fire and smoke coming from a second-story window facing the street.

Crews entered the home and extinguished the fire, which was located in a bedroom on the second floor. The fire was mostly contained to the room. Smoke alarms were present and working.

Three residents, who were not home at the time of the fire, were displaced. No one was injured as a result of the incident.

All four City stations responded to the scene and were assisted by Greenwood Fire Company of Frederick County. Final units left the scene at approximately 5:15 p.m., and an investigation was conducted by the Fire Marshal’s Office. The approximate value of the property is $162,000 and incurred an estimated $25,000 in damage. The cause of the fire was ruled as accidental and determined to be the result of misuse of an extension cord.
