Winchester Fire & Rescue volunteer firefighters to be highlighted in statewide video

Fri, 05/14/2021 - 09:00

On Saturday, May 15, 2021, the Winchester Fire and Rescue Department (WFRD) will partner with the Virginia Fire Chiefs Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs to produce a statewide volunteer recruitment and retention video through an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG).

Filming will take place from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00p.m. on or near the newly constructed Crossover Boulevard overpass that connects Winchester to Frederick County. Though the roadway is not yet open to traffic, the WFRD is asking that the public please keep its distance while production is occurring. Residents can expect a high volume of emergency apparatus and related noise as well as a helicopter that is scheduled to land on-site during filming.

“Nationally, the volunteer fire service is seeing a dip in participation,” stated WFRD Chief Jon Henschel. “Volunteers play a vital role in their communities’ public safety systems, and we’re excited to participate in this video that sets out to inspire and increase interest in volunteer firefighting.”

The video is being produced by JeffinHighDef, an Emmy-award winning video producer from Northern Virginia. Volunteers from Frederick County stations will join volunteers from the city of Winchester’s four fire stations. Learn more about volunteering on the City’s volunteer recruitment webpage.
