WPA to update automated equipment at downtown garages

Wed, 04/21/2021 - 14:30

Beginning this weekend, the Winchester Parking Authority (WPA) will be installing new automated gate and payment equipment at the four downtown parking garages which will cause some lane closures and access restrictions (see schedule below). Replacing the current antiquated system has been planned for approximately two years, but placed on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new automated equipment will provide a more convenient process for monthly users. Once the equipment is operational, monthly space renters will have access in and out of the garage using an AVI windshield tag. This windshield tag will be recognized by the system upon arrival, activating the gate instead of the user having to swipe a key card (current process). Monthly parkers are required to have an updated lease and will be issued an AVI windshield tag upon renewal.

For hourly parkers, new pay stations are being installed. Each garage will now have a walk-up station that accepts cash and credit/debit card in addition to a new drive-through pay station at the exit gates which will accept only credit/debit cards.
