Officers to Leave Warnings on Unlocked Cars

The Winchester Police Department is urging drivers to be extra vigilant in locking their car doors and will be leaving warnings on vehicles left unsecured in an effort to cut down on larcenies from motor vehicles. 
The police department is investigating 66 reports of larcenies from motor vehicles since July 1.  Nearly all of the cars that were reportedly broken into were left unlocked.  Officers will be checking car doors and will be leaving warnings on the vehicles that are left unlocked. 
The warning will read:

Two Juveniles Arrested for Breaking into School

The Winchester Police Department arrested two juveniles Monday for breaking into Virginia Avenue Charlotte Dehart Elementary School.  The 16 and 17-year-old males, both of Winchester, are charged with burglary and grand larceny.  They were taken to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center. 
Around 4 a.m. Sunday the juveniles broke into the schools and stole electronic devices.  School teachers reported that items in their classroom were gone through and other items were missing. 

Detectives Investigate Breaking and Entering at School

The Winchester Police Department is investigating a breaking and entering that happened at Virginia Avenue Charlotte Dehart Elementary School. 
On Sunday, August 17th around 3 p.m. officers responded to 550 Virginia Avenue for a reported breaking and entering.  Teachers at the school reported that items in their classrooms were out of place.  Electronic devices were also reported stolen.  At least seven classrooms appeared to have been rummaged through during the early morning hours.

World Series Update:Opening Ceremonies & Day One of Pool Play

Day one of the World Series tournament is in the books and it was a day full of excitement, surprises and great baseball.
The teams arrived at Jim Barnett Park early this morning to take several group photos with the World Series photographer.  After a shot with all teams together, the teams were transported to Bridgeforth Field until Opening Ceremonies began at 11:00 am. When they got to Bridgeforth, a special guest was waiting to meet them. 

Be By the Book on Back-to-School Safety

As students head back to school next week in Winchester, we want drivers to be By the Book when it comes to safety. The first day of school for students in the city is Monday, August 11th.  There will be an increased presence of officers at schools during the first week in an effort to ensure safety.

Geese Police to Help with Nuisance at Visitors Center

The Winchester Parks and Recreation Department has called in the Geese Police to HUMANELY deal with aggressive and dirty geese creating a nuisance at the Winchester-Frederick County Convention and Visitors Bureau's Visitor's Center. The Geese Police will be on-site Thursday, July 31st to begin the two week flock's eviction process. The Visitor's Center adjoins Jim Barnett Park's Wilkins Lake. The grasslands adjacent to the Lake serves as an attractive nesting place for the Canadian goose.

2014 National Night Out Brings Community Together in One Location

Residents in the City of Winchester are invited to the 31st Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, from 6 – 9 p.m.  The Winchester Police Department is excited to host the event this year on the Loudoun Street Mall in front of the Old Courthouse Museum.  The event will include bluegrass band Five of a Kind, activities for kids, a meet and greet with Winchester Police K-9 Officer Kota, free hotdogs, chips, sodas, and appearances by McGruff and Red E.

Lock Your Car Doors to Prevent Larcenies

In a 12-hour time period between July 19-20, 21 unlocked cars in the City of Winchester were rummaged through, and that’s just the number that were reported.  The most recent rash of larcenies occurred on Harvest Drive, Cidermill Lane, Melvor Lane, Wayne Drive, Clayton Ridge Drive, Stoneleigh Drive, and Summerfield Lane.  The Winchester Police Department wants residents to make it a habit of locking their car doors.  Since June 1, 2014 the police department has received 48 reports of larcenies from motor vehicles.  In most cases the thieves are looking for money including loose change, elec
