Overview

Winchester Parks and Recreation (WPRD) offers many athletic programs, leagues, and fitness opportunities that will keep you moving and having fun.

All registrations are processed through CommunityPass! Individuals and Families are required to create an account in order to register for programs. Phone registrations will not be taken.

Youth Programs

Winchester Parks and Recreation currently offers basketball and volleyball leagues in-house seasonally. We also partner with a number of local organizations to provide quality recreational sports and enrichment opportunities. Leagues include baseball, flag football, tackle football and cheerleading, soccer, lacrosse, rugby, bmx, and swimming. Visit our Park Partners page for details.

Youth Basketball Leagues

Join our exciting basketball leagues where players will learn the basics of the game and how to work as a team! Leagues run mid-November 2024 through early/mid February 2025.

Pee Wee Leagues for ages 5-8 introduce basic skills in practice and develop those skills during games.

Junior and Senior Leagues for ages 9-13 allow players to develop their skills in a fun and competitive environment.

Registration Period is 9/26 - 11/4 for all leagues. Team assignments and practice/game schedules will be available after the registration period has ended. Requests will not be accepted after the registration deadline.

Youth Volleyball Skills Clinic

Led by Go Volley Ceo, Nemanja Rozgic, and his staff. The clinic will be held once a week to help players work on their volleyball skills. Coaches will provide individual attention to help work on any difficulties players are having.

Youth Basketball Skills Clinics

Led by certified I’m Possible Trainer and coach Chris Troxell. Each player will be introduced to proven methods used by players of all ages from all over the world, including NBA players. There will be a balance of individual skill enhancement as well as game development.

Adult Programs

Adult Ultimate Frisbee League

Combining the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football, a game of Ultimate is played by two seven player squads with a high-tech plastic disc on a field similar to football. The object of the game is to score by catching a pass in the opponent’s end zone. Teams of 7 participants’ minimum, 14 participants’ maximum per team.

Adult Fencing Clinic

WPRD is now offering fencing; one of the original sports held in the Olympic Games. The clinic is led by Tom Jobson, member of the United States Fencing Association. This clinic is for people of all skill levels. Come out and join us for a new and exciting experience. Equipment is available for a one-time rental fee of $15 payable to the instructor.

Adult Bicycle Class

Have you been thinking about getting back on the bicycle? If you already know how to ride a bike, but would like to sharpen your riding skills, this is the class for you. We will go over some important bicycle safety information and practice basic skills in a safe parking lot environment. We will also do some riding in the park on low traffic roads to practice what we learned in the parking lot. This class is for 18+ and you will need your own bike in good working condition, a helmet, closed toed shoes and water. You will be required to sign a waiver to participate in the class.

Fitness and Drop In

The daily visit fee or membership applies to all fitness programs and indoor amenities. Outdoor Play locations may be used free of charge.

Please bring a yoga mat and yoga blocks if you wish to use them.

Zumba

Zumba: Enjoy a total body workout using the most popular music. Zumba burns calories, tones muscles, improves balance, and incorporates a full range of motion.

Zumba Toning: All the fun of Zumba with the addition of light weights for a total body workout.

Interval Training

This class includes a variety of cardiovascular activities, which may include kickboxing, aerobics, plyometrics and resistance training for a workout that can be tailored to accommodate all fitness levels. You will experience intervals of high intensity to low intensity. Interval training is scientifically known to burn calories long after the workout is over.

Strength 'N Tone

This class will incorporate weights, resistance bands and more to increase strength, and tone muscles. This class is for all fitness levels.

Seated Fitness

Seated Fitness is a group exercise class designed for the individual that prefers seated exercise. This class will include low impact exercises designed to increase mobility and functional fitness from a primarily seated position. Exercises may include the use of bands, balls, and small hand weights. Participants should expect to have fun while improving their overall health. All ages and fitness levels welcome.

Drop In Play

During Drop In Play, the gymnasium is available at to anyone wanting to drop by the Recreation Center to play the designated sport. Equipment is available if needed. Anyone entering the gym must pay the daily fee or have a membership. Schedule is subject to change based on gym availability.

  • This is not a league or program.
  • Organized practices of any kind are not permitted during Drop In Play times.
  • Children are not permitted (as spectators or players) during sessions designated "Highschool+" and will be required to leave the gym.
  • Designated sports are seasonal.

*For sessions designated "All Ages", children under 12 must be supervised by an adult 18 years of age or older at all times. Children 12 and up may enter without an adult.

Drop In Play - Turf Fields

The turf fields at Preston Sports Complex are open for designated Drop In Play during the times listed below.

All participants must have a valid Turf Access Punch Pass (TAPP) card with them to enter the complex. TAPP cards are available for purchase at the Rec Center during regular business hours. For complete rules, see the TAPP Information(PDF, 48KB) document. TAPP cards are $20 and include 10 punches. One punch allows turf field entry for one participant. Must be 12+ to purchase a TAPP card.

Open Gym

During Open Gym, the gymnasium is available for athletic and/or fitness activities on an individual basis. Anyone entering the gym must pay the daily fee or have a membership. Schedule is subject to change based on gym availability.

Racquetball

The Rec Center has one indoor court that can be used for racquetball, wallyball, or badminton. Court reservations can be made seven calendar days in advance for no more than two hours at a time. Reservations are recommended.

  • Open daily during Rec Center hours.
  • Spectators are not permitted.

Fitness Room

The Rec Center "Work Zone" Fitness Room provides weights, dumbbells, barbells, machines, treadmills, and ellipticals. The main room was completely renovated in Fall 2023 and an additional room was added in late Spring 2024.

  • Open daily during Rec Center hours to participants ages 14+.
  • Ages 14-16 must be accompanied by an adult 18+.
  • Spectators are not permitted without prior WPRD approval.
  • Attire must follow WPRD fitness policy, and all policies are strictly enforced.

Outdoor Play

Outdoor Pickleball

During the warmer months, 10 lined outdoor courts are available for use free of charge on a first-come, first served basis, unless reserved for a class or event. A key for equipment can be checked out at the Rec Center.

Disc Golf

WPRD's 18-hole disc golf course is located within Jim Barnett Park and is available to play for FREE! Discs are available at the Rec Center, if needed. The course meanders through 170 acres of park land and boasts a balance of long, challenging holes and short, strategic holes. Tee boxes are clearly marked with full-color hole maps and permanent colored squares in the concrete.
