Did you know that April is National Volunteer Month? Given our busy, sometimes hectic lives, it’s easy to forget that every day, Winchester volunteers are making a positive difference in our community. Volunteers in our City serve as firefighters, deliver food, teach, provide companionship, and so much more. Simply put, volunteers fill a gap in our society that neither Government nor free enterprise can fill.

For that reason, during Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Smith proclaimed April 8-14 as City Volunteer Week. Mayor Smith also recognized the City Snowbuster volunteers, who braved the ice and snow to shovel their elderly and disabled neighbors’ sidewalks. Their selfless service helped keep our sidewalks safe for all residents, including our kids walking to school.

If you are interested in serving as a Snowbuster volunteer, or would like to receive Snowbuster assistance, please contact City Communications Director Kit Redmer at kit.redmer@winchesterva.gov or 720-289-1830.
