National Preservation Month

May is National Preservation Month, a celebration recognizing historic places and the lives of their residents. Winchester boasts a wealth of historic resources, including individually listed properties on the National Register of Historic Places (NHRP). Among them are Abram’s Delight, the City’s oldest surviving building, built in 1754, and Handley Library, constructed in 1913.

Abrams Creek Restoration Project at Jim Barnett Park

Winchester has launched a multi-year restoration project along Abrams Creek to address erosion, pollution, and stormwater issues. The effort includes stream reconstruction, invasive species removal, and replanting with native vegetation to improve water quality and ecosystem health. The project will also help reduce flooding and enhance the long-term resilience of the area.
