New Playground Grand Opening Event

Join us for our Grand Opening Event celebrating the NEW PLAYGROUND at Christianson Familyland in Jim Barnett Park! There will be rock painting, face painting, bubbles, crafts, DJ, food trucks ($) and of course, playground fun! Ribbon cutting at 11AM. Folks from the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum will be hosting an interactive Color Walk along the Story Walk in celebration of their 30th anniversary! Bring or wear a white t-shirt for the color walk... all ages welcome! Walk starts approximately 11:45AM. Event is free and open to the public!

4/17/26 Update: 

�� Quick update about tomorrow's celebration for our new playground at Jim Barnett Park.
The playground won't be ready for play yet, but it will be very soon!
The good news? We're still having a party! Come to celebrate and preview this new investment in our largest park to give our kids a safe place to play. We're still celebrating the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum's 30th anniversary with a color walk, craft activities, food trucks, a face painter, and a DJ!
There's also an exclusive opportunity for those who come out tomorrow... a chance to name our new playground! We are asking for your ideas, so come by the Parks and Rec tent to submit yours!
