Two Injured in Stabbing

The Winchester Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred on Thursday, May 22, 2014.  Just after midnight officers responded to the first block of South Loudoun Street in reference to a possible stabbing.  When officers arrived on scene they found a 42-year-old Winchester man who had an injury to his face.  An investigation determined there was a second male, a 21-year-old man from Myrtle Beach who had gone to the hospital for injuries to his abdomen.  An investigation determined there was an argument between the two victims and another male.  The suspect stabbed the victim

Get educated about pool safety

Winchester Fire & Rescue urges the community to take the time to get educated about pool safety to prevent a tragedy from occurring.  Each year, too many children become victims of drowning and non-fatal submersion injuries. Other families experience close calls when a child has a submersion incident or near-drowning and requires emergency room attention or hospitalization. Some children are permanently brain damaged by these incidents.

Phone Scammer Poses as Winchester Police Officer

The Winchester Police Department wants to warn local residents about a scam that involves phone calls from people pretending to be Winchester Police Officers asking for money to pay back taxes.  On May 20th the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a resident who received several phone calls from a phone number with a 717 area code.  On one occasion the caller identified himself as being with the IRS.  On another call the individual said he was a police officer for the Winchester Police Department, but he would not provide a name or badge number.  The caller told the vict

Heroin Action Committee Meets

On average every nine days someone in our area dies from a heroin overdose.  The statistics show that heroin is an epidemic in our community and efforts are being made to combat the deadly addiction.  This morning a Heroin Action Committee meeting was held at the Timbrook Public Safety Center.  In attendance were those who committed, during an April heroin summit at Shenandoah University, to partake in designing and executing a plan to address the problem.  There were 23 people in attendance representing law enforcement, parents, educators, treatment professionals, legislators, businesses,

Winchester Woman Charged with Prostitution

A Winchester woman was charged with prostitution Monday during an undercover operation by the Winchester Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.  Patricia Louise Bridges, 28, of Winchester posted an ad on an Internet site.  Monday afternoon she came to a location in the City and exchanged money for sexual activities.  Bridges was released on a summons.
Winchester Police are hoping the recent increase in prostitution arrests will curtail this activity in our area.\\

Public input needed on Comp Plan Revisions

NOTICE OF PUBLIC INPUT MEETING
The Winchester Planning Commission will host a public input meeting on proposed revisions to the Winchester Comprehensive Plan 2011. The revisions are primarily focused in the West Central Planning area, and include, but are not limited to, potential location of a new John Kerr Elementary School and other land use recommendations along the planned extension of Meadow Branch Avenue.

National Police Weekend

In 1962 President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day.  It’s a time to pause and honor police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.  National Police Week this year runs from Sunday, May 11th through Saturday, May 17th.  This week the Winchester Police Department remembers Sergeant Ricky Timbrook.
On Wednesday, May 14th the 11th Annual Police Memorial Service will be held at the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy at 10 a.m.  Fallen officers from our area, including Sgt. Timbrook, will be honored during the ceremony.
