Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA)

The federal government has been shut down since October 1, 2025. Because of this, the U.S. Department of Agriculture told Virginia that it can’t send out November SNAP benefits right now. On October 23, 2025, Governor Youngkin declared a State of Emergency and provided state funds to launch the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA), a temporary program meant to fill the gap.

City Council approves indefinite closure of Boscawen Street

City Council unanimously approved the continued emergency closure of Boscawen Street between Indian Alley and Cameron Street last night, following the October 18 traffic accident resulting in the death of a three-year-old child at the intersection of Boscawen and Loudoun Streets on the Old Town Mall.

These represent the highest possible ratings from both agencies, an extraordinary achievement that reflects the City’s continued financial strength, prudent fiscal management, and growing local economy.
